Job description

For our client in the Rotterdam region we are hiring a Systems Engineer.
In this role, you will be responsible for the integrated design and functioning of complex technical systems. You ensure that mechanical structures, hydraulic systems, electrical power supply and control systems work together seamlessly. The projects involve advanced equipment such as offshore cranes, cable-lay systems, pile handling equipment and automated lifting solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and engineer complete, safe and cost-effective system designs;
• Define the overall system architecture, interfaces and technical requirements;
• Coordinate and align mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control engineering disciplines;
• Act as a technical sparring partner for engineers throughout all project phases;
• Validate designs against applicable standards, customer requirements and functional performance criteria;
• Identify technical and integration risks at an early stage and initiate corrective actions;
• Prepare technical documentation, including system descriptions, interface documents and test plans;
• Document and substantiate technical decisions;
• Contribute to quality improvements, standards and knowledge development within the engineering department;
• Occasionally support projects at customer sites or offshore locations.
Your qualifications
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or a related technical discipline;
• At least 8 years of experience in a similar Systems Engineering role;
• Experience within offshore, maritime or heavy steel construction environments;
• Strong expertise in either mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or control systems, combined with a broad understanding of hydraulics and other technical disciplines;
• Able to oversee the complete system while also working accurately on technical details;
• Strong communication skills and comfortable working in multidisciplinary project teams;
• Proactive, structured, practical and solution-oriented;
• Willing to travel occasionally to client and offshore locations;
• Excellent command of English; Dutch is preferred;
• In possession of an EU passport or valid work permit for the Netherlands.
