Voor onze opdrachtgever in de omgeving Amsterdam zijn wij op zoek naar een Chapter lead - API development.
Are you ready to help shape the future of mortgages in the Netherlands by leading the development of complex backend systems at scale? We’re looking for a Chapter Lead API Engineer who will not only drive technical excellence but also mentor and grow a team of passionate engineers.
As Chapter Lead API Engineer, you’ll combine deep technical knowledge with strong leadership capabilities. You will guide your chapter in delivering robust API solutions, coach engineers in their craft, and play a key role in building the vision of the broader technical area.
You’ll collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders, challenge existing ways of working, and ensure that our backend platforms are reliable, scalable, and future-proof.
As part of the leadership team, you’ll help shape the technical and cultural direction of your area while remaining hands-on where needed.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Lead and coach a chapter of backend engineers working in the mortgage domain
✅ Support and grow your chapter members both professionally and personally
✅ Drive engineering standards and best practices across squads
✅ Co-create the area vision and effectively staff squads with the right capabilities
✅ Continuously improve backend business applications and APIs
✅ Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, testing, and risk control practices
✅ Guide production issue resolution with a strong sense of ownership
✅ Work in close alignment with other Chapter Leads and Product Owners

Your qualifications
• 10+ years of experience in Java and microservices architecture
• Strong experience with REST APIs, SQL databases, file transfers
• Skilled in Azure DevOps, automated deployment, and Ansible scripting
• Familiarity with IT risk and security standards, especially in financial environments
• Strong experience with Agile (Scrum or Kanban) methodologies
• Analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills
• Passionate about technology and mentoring others
• Able to challenge decisions constructively and speak up when needed
• Excellent communication and coaching skills in English
• Full-time position (36 or 40 hours per week)

Compensation and Benefits
• Monthly salary between €5.212,06 and €9.871,23
• 13th-month salary
