Job description
Are you enthusiastic about hydrodynamics and eager to apply your knowledge to cutting-edge naval projects? We are looking for a Technical Specialist in Hydrodynamics to join our Naval and Technology department. In this position, you will oversee the development, consultancy, and engineering of hydrodynamic systems for intricate shipbuilding endeavors, leveraging your extensive expertise and innovative approaches. As a member of a dedicated hydrodynamics team, you will engage in all project phases, from initial proposals and conceptual designs to model testing and sea trials, ensuring optimal performance in areas such as resistance, propulsion, seakeeping, and maneuverability.
As a Technical Specialist in Hydrodynamics, your main focus will be on the hydrodynamic features of naval vessel design and performance. Your responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with design teams to enhance hydrodynamic performance throughout the proposal and engineering stages.
Performing hydrodynamic simulations, conducting model tests, and executing sea trials to confirm that designs adhere to performance criteria.
Partnering with clients, suppliers, and research institutions to integrate hydrodynamic insights into the design process.
Gathering and analyzing operational data to validate and improve hydrodynamic performance for future projects.
Developing innovative methods and tools in partnership with academic and research organizations.
Offering technical expertise on resistance, propulsion, maneuverability, seakeeping, and smoke simulations using specialized software.
Contributing to research and development initiatives by creating and evaluating solutions for complex engineering issues.
Assisting in verification and validation tests during production and research phases to ensure that designs meet all technical specifications.
Actively advocating for advancements in hydrodynamics to enhance future applications.
Delivering high-quality engineering or research outputs within agreed timelines and budgets.
Participating in design reviews to ensure adherence to all relevant requirements and regulations.
Your qualifications
A Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or a related discipline, with a minimum of five years of practical experience in hydrodynamics, particularly during proposal and engineering stages.
A solid understanding of fluid dynamics, especially in relation to complex naval projects.
Experience in complex project settings and collaboration with academic research, including the development of new methods and tools.
Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project managers in the naval shipbuilding sector.
Competencies such as customer orientation, results-driven focus, teamwork, creativity, initiative, and critical thinking.
Proficiency in both Dutch and English (written and verbal).
Excellent references; a pre-assignment security screening will be part of the recruitment process.
