Piping engineers
The Piping Engineer is mainly engaged in conducting lead studies and designing and specifying piping systems for industrial process plants. The work of the Piping Engineer ranges from making conceptual studies to collaborating with basic and detail engineering; from drafting design drawings, pipe support, pipeline plans and isometrics to the design of pipeline specifications, using computer software such as 3D modelling. The Piping Engineer can be involved in projects ranging from small revisions to large-scale new construction projects. With a variable task package, the Piping Engineer is constantly working on efficient engineering with regard to conceptual, basic, functional, final and detail design. Terms such as expansion, stress, security, RAM and PED are an integral part of the Piping Engineer's field of work. As the job involves working closely with colleagues and clients, the Piping Engineer must also have good communicative skills.
The duties of a Piping Engineer include:
- Drafting design drawings;
- Designing and developing the entire pipeline system;
- Making all pipe materials and supports available;
- Making the framework for pipe manufacturing and assembly;
- Obtaining approval for the pipelines from various regulatory bodies;
- Providing assistance and supervision on the construction site;
- Checking information obtained from other disciplines;
- Processing the requirements of other disciplines in the piping design.
