Welding inspectors
The Welding Inspector works for the Quality Department (also known as QA / QC department). On the one hand, the Welding Inspector performs various quality and welding checks. On the other hand, the Welding Inspector conducts talks with both the internal organisation and suppliers about a variety of quality issues. The Welding Inspector can also visit suppliers and perform on-the-spot checks. Therefore, he must not only have material knowledge but also be verbally strong. In addition, the Welding Inspector must be accurate in recording and reporting his findings.
The duties of a Welding Inspector include:
- Carrying out measurements, inspections and checks to assess whether products (mainly pipelines and containers) meet the stipulated requirements;
- Performing (product) checks, inspections and measurements at the premises of suppliers and third parties;
- (Visually) inspecting welding;
- He is the first contact point regarding welding issues;
- Initiating further specialised research based on his findings;
- Creating and managing welding documents (such as Weld Procedure Specification);
- Initiating, supervising and managing new Qualification Record / Welder Performance Qualification;
- Determining the measurement data, values and inspection findings in reports;
- Examining causes of abnormalities;
- Compiling Non Conformity Reports;
- Compiling reports about corrective measures;
- Conducting consultations with the organisation, suppliers and third parties about the quality of deliverables and delivered products and services and any deviations;
- Supervising independent parties and / or auditors in checks and / or audits;
- Registering and managing materials certificates;
- Initiating and supervising the upgrading of certified materials.
