Vacature omschrijving
As a Senior Engineer specializing in Composite Structures, you will be instrumental in designing, testing, and delivering large-scale composite structures for naval projects. You will balance direct project involvement with innovative R&D efforts, ensuring the strength, manufacturability, and long-term upkeep of advanced composite structures used in maritime environments.
In your project responsibilities, you will perform finite element modeling (FEM) analysis and structural calculations, conduct technical reviews, and work closely with suppliers and manufacturers. On the R&D front, you will lead key portions of major European defense projects, developing cutting-edge techniques for repairing, joining, and maintaining naval composite components.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to forward-thinking naval engineering solutions while advancing your expertise in composite materials.
Key Responsibilities
Designing and validating large composite structures using FEM analysis, evaluating factors such as strength, stiffness, vibrations, fatigue, and military-specific loads.
Conducting and reviewing Ansys simulations for complex structures such as masts and deckhouses.
Reviewing technical documentation provided by suppliers and subcontractors, including engineering and calculation reports.
Collaborating with composite manufacturers to create optimized production processes.
Assisting in both basic and detailed engineering phases, including conducting design checks and reviewing outsourced packages.
Offering guidance for production, including setting up Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), reviewing production documents, and performing on-site inspections.
Leading R&D initiatives to integrate new composite technologies, documenting results, and validating new designs.
Presenting and defending technical solutions to both internal and external stakeholders.
Ensuring smooth integration of composite components into naval ship designs.
Je profiel
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
At least five years of experience in structural composite engineering.
Proficiency in structural FEM analysis, preferably using tools like Ansys, NX, FEMAP, and CAD programs such as NUPAS (3D), 3DX, or Catia.
Familiarity with classification societies (IACS) and expertise in composite manufacturing processes.
A deep understanding of Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP).
Experience in managing subcontractors in complex project environments is advantageous.
Strong problem-solving, accuracy, and teamwork abilities.
Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
Excellent references, as a security screening will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
Permanent EU citizenship and passport are required. Candidates with an EU (work) visa or with dual EU and non-EU nationality/passports are ineligible due to military project requirements.
