For our client in Ghent we are hiring a Project Engineer Mechanical.
You will be part of the project team in Ghent as a Mechanical Project Engineer for the scope related to adaptations in the existing Steel Shop. You will handle major sub-projects and work closely with the project managers/engineers in your team.
Your expertise in coordinating and providing technical direction will be crucial in ensuring the team delivers this major project on time and within budget.

Key tasks
• Responsible for the project management of the several subprojects (>10MEUR) with a mainly mechanical scope, taking into highly complex brownfield conditions and production restrictions.
• You collaborate closely with EPCM and permitting partners (scope definition, reviewing schedules for deliverables, enforcing D&E standardization).
• You are the main contact person to dive into technical discussions with suppliers and engineering contractors.
• You check and define technical requirements, designs and offers from a general technical, multidisciplinary and common-sense perspective. You are supported by expert discipline engineers for detailed technical knowledge, who you give clear directions regarding their tasks and the related subproject scope
• You take a leading role in challenging mechanical related design concepts, ensuring the choice of the best available technology.

• You ensure integration and validate brownfield adaptations always taking into account the preservation of existing operations.
• You conduct reviews and approvals for documents, drawings and request for change.
• You enable periodic internal reviews and coordination with stakeholders to address gaps and follow-through resolution.
• Proactively escalate any project governance issues that are creating a barrier to project delivery in a timely manner and make suggestions for how they might be brought back to plan.
• Drive continuous process improvements through the project lifecycle, by using lessons learnt and identifying opportunities.
• Analyse improvement areas identified via maturity assessment, evaluate use cases & prioritize and propose actions.
• You will support and report to the Steel Shop project delivery lead of the project
Je profiel
Technical skills• Expertise in Project Management
• Goal oriented, results driven, takes initiative, leadership and attention to detail
• Effective communicator, with ability to proactively deal with senior executives and stakeholders.
Job experience / other skills
• +5 years’ experience as a Project Engineer in a similar role.
• A broad technical background is needed to understand and navigate the entire scope. Experience in any of these areas would be a plus: Electro-mechanical installations, Structural works, Heavy transport equipment, Bulk and dust handling or Fluid and gas networks
• It’s a plus if you have experience in managing EPCM or EPC companies, Mining & Metal sector knowledge or experience in a multinational production company
Courses
• Master/Bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent professional technical education, with mechanical or structural background.
Language skills
• Project language is English
• Knowledge of the Dutch language is a prerequisite
