For our client in the Zeeland region we are hiring a Networking Engineer.
As a Networking Engineer, you take ownership of the design, deployment, and upkeep of secure and highly available network environments that underpin business‑critical operations. You guarantee stable connectivity across both core and edge infrastructures while embedding strong security controls throughout the network landscape.

In this position, you operate as an essential connection point between internal stakeholders and external technology partners, ensuring network solutions are aligned with operational needs and regulatory requirements. You contribute actively to performance monitoring, scalability planning, and the ongoing improvement of IT services that support complex maritime and defense‑related programs. Due to the critical nature of the environment, participation in a 24/7 standby rotation is required.

Key requirements

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise network connectivity, covering LAN switching, corporate Wi‑Fi, WAN connections, and secure VPN solutions.
• Enforcing network security by configuring NAC platforms, firewall orchestration, and IP address management to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
• Supporting key users by resolving network and infrastructure incidents swiftly, safeguarding the continuity of daily operations.
• Working closely with architecture and information security teams to ensure network designs comply with applicable standards, policies, and audit requirements.
• Monitoring network performance and usage trends, translating insights into recommendations for capacity growth and technical enhancements.
• Developing and maintaining disaster recovery solutions to ensure resilience and availability of critical IT services.
• Advising on the selection and deployment of networking hardware and software in close cooperation with external suppliers.
• Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation while actively contributing to knowledge retention within the department.
Je profiel
• A Bachelor’s degree (HBO) in IT or a related discipline. Candidates with an MBO‑4 diploma combined with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Solid understanding of network fundamentals, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, and switching concepts like STP and LACP.
• Proven experience with wired and wireless enterprise networks, including WLAN architectures and authentication mechanisms.
• Practical knowledge of 802.1X‑based NAC solutions and extensive experience with VPN technologies such as IPsec and SSL/TLS.
• Experience with WAN or SD‑WAN solutions and familiarity with IP address management tools and network monitoring platforms.
• Cisco CCNA certification is required; CCNP is preferred. Comparable certifications from vendors such as Juniper, Fortinet, Aruba, or Palo Alto are also valued. ITIL Foundation is considered an advantage.
• Basic scripting or automation skills using tools such as Python, Ansible, or REST APIs to improve operational efficiency.
• Experience within IT operations or security environments that operate under strict regulatory or mission‑critical conditions is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills in English. Proficiency in Dutch is beneficial.
