Functieomschrijving

For our client in Zeeland province we are looking for a Design & Proposal Engineer.
As a Design & Proposal Engineer, you serve as a vital link between early ideas and technically viable yacht concepts. You support ongoing sales activities while also shaping the technological basis for future yacht platforms. By working across disciplines and throughout various lifecycle phases, you convert client needs, market expectations, and innovative ideas into realistic, well‑engineered proposals.
This position blends technical sales support with concept development and structured contributions to product and platform evolution. In daily practice, your primary focus lies on sales proposals, complemented by recurring involvement in feasibility assessments, platform updates, and lifecycle‑related initiatives.

You will work within the Product Management department and collaborate closely with colleagues in Sales and Engineering. On a daily basis, you are consistently engaged in supporting sales opportunities and platform development tasks, acting as a technical bridge between multiple disciplines.
Your role requires intensive interaction with Product Managers, Sales Managers, a variety of engineering disciplines, and external partners such as suppliers and classification authorities.

What you will do:
• Sales & Proposal Support
• Assist sales managers by delivering complete, accurate, and technically substantiated proposal materials.
• Create, update, and maintain General Arrangements and Technical Specifications for platform‑based and semi‑custom yacht designs.
• Convert client input, sales insights, and market trends into workable technical solutions and configurations.
• Provide technical insights during sales reviews, internal meetings, and customer presentations.
• Contribute to cost estimation approaches in collaboration with Product Management and Finance.

Product Development & Platform Support:
• Support the creation of Product Definition Packages (PDPs), integrating contributions from Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Interior, and Shipbuilding teams.
• Facilitate the transition from concept design to engineering and help maintain the integrity of the product vision during initial development phases.
• Assist in consolidating PDP content during early engineering and production activities.
• Participate in lessons learned processes and help drive standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Ensure that all concepts remain compliant with applicable Class and Flag State requirements.
• You will work with both established platforms and concepts under development, with the opportunity to identify enhancements and feed them back into future PDP revisions.
• Contribute to assigned activities within the Product Portfolio Lifecycle Management framework.

Support early evaluations and impact studies focusing on:
• Platform evolution
• Adoption of new technologies
• Changes in regulatory or compliance frameworks

Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to explore, validate, and refine system‑level solutions.
Evaluate supplier proposals with regard to technical suitability, commercial impact, and regulatory implications.
Serve as a technical point of contact between Product Management, Sales, Engineering, and external stakeholders within your field of responsibility.

You perform successfully in this role when:
Sales teams can rely on your technical contributions to progress opportunities confidently.
Proposal documents are consistent, realistic, and technically well‑grounded.
Your work enhances the quality, durability, and applicability of platforms and PDPs.
Insights from lessons learned translate into concrete improvements and standardised practices.

Success is primarily measured by the quality, coherence, and effectiveness of your technical contributions rather than by quantitative metrics.
Je profiel
· A BSc or MSc in Naval Architecture, Shipbuilding, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
· Experience in yacht or shipbuilding environments
· Broad technical understanding across multiple engineering disciplines
· Working knowledge of yacht systems and Class and Flag State regulations
· Comfortable working with conceptual modelling and drafting tools such as Rhinoceros, AutoCAD, Maxsurf and Pias
· A pragmatic, hands‑on mindset with attention to detail
· Ability to assess technical and commercial implications and translate them into clear documentation
· Clear communication skills in an international working environment
Depending on the topic, you will work both hands‑on at concept level and reviewing or validating technical input from other disciplines and suppliers.
